Resumo
Objective: This paper aims to propose a protocol to assist and standardize the dispensing of positive pressure equipment for patients with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) of the State of Ceará. Methods: Methodological study for the development of a protocol for the dispensing of positive airway pressure (PAP) equipment to be implemented into the SUS, meeting the demands of the State of Ceará. The protocol was developed from an integrative literature review and is grounded on the opinion of experts. The chosen strategy was to apply electronic surveys made available to the consulted experts on two occasions. Results: The experts have defined the recommended PAP equipment, as well as the best way to organize the dispensing of those devices by the SUS according to the local needs. Discussion: The creation of this protocol aims to decrease the time needed to make PAP available for patients with SDB, which would improve the treatment efficacy and reduce costs for the public sector.
