Rui M. B. Maciel, M.D., PhD. is a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Medicine and Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Director of the Laboratory of Molecular and Translational Endocrinology, Division of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil.
The Laboratory of Molecular and Translational Endocrinology has helped establish the importance of several mechanisms of thyroid diseases, including thyrotoxic periodic paralysis, thyroid cancer, multiple endocrine neoplasia, and subclinical thyroid disease. These activities have produced more than 250 published papers, more than 100 book chapters, the edition of 6 books, several prizes, and the mentorship of more than 50 Ph.D. students.
