ANA LUIZA SILVA MAIA
RSFull Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology) and Chief of the Thyroid Unit at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Completed a postdoctoral fellowship and served as a Visiting Professor in Endocrinology/Molecular Biology at the Thyroid Division, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Pioneered molecular diagnostics for thyroid carcinoma in Brazil, contributing to the establishment of national guidelines and earning numerous prestigious awards for research and leadership.
Coordinated the development of Brazilian guidelines for diagnosing and treating Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (Brazilian Medical Association) and held prominent leadership roles in international endocrinology societies. Served as President of the Latin American Thyroid Society (2019–2021), a member of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee of the Endocrine Society (2020–2022), and a task force member for the American Thyroid Association's Thyroid Nodule guidelines (2020–present). Currently Chair of the Program Organizing Committee for the 2025 International Thyroid Congress.
