Título

HEALTH MANAGEMENT: MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR THE PROMOTION OF CARE CENTERED ON THE ONCOLOGICAL PATIENT OF A UNACON IN DOWNTOWN AMAZON

Introdução

Improvement programs in the hospital environment aimed at patient safety is already a reality in several health institutions in Brazil and around the world. There is no need for continuous improvement of hospital processes in institutions authorized by the Ministry of Health such as UNACON, it is believed that the entire hierarchical chain of health management can contribute to promoting the safety of cancer patients.

Objetivo

The objective was to assess whether existing procedures in the oncology sector are effective to prevent the occurrence of events, assess the existence of learning from errors that lead to positive changes, as well as verifying whether the hospital management promotes a work climate that promotes patient safety in the UNACON under study.

Método

Quantitative, cross-sectional study carried out from December 2020 to January 2021 at a UNACON in the interior of Pará. A questionnaire on patient safety developed by the Agency for Helthcare Research and Quality and was used as a tool for data collection. validated in Brazil, which was imputed as an electronic form in Software Interact®, where it was possible to assess whether methodologies such as PDSA, security meeting, learning framework and rounds of the top leadership in the sector contributed to the detection of opportunities for improvement, transparency of processes in care, team engagement and senior management support in promoting patient safety.

Resultado

Research applied with 100% of employees in the sector. As for the support for the management of service improvement and monitoring processes, 75% point out the importance of the senior leadership involved in the unit's priority issue. It was identified that 92% of employees positively assess learning and organizational continuous improvement of processes and 91% assess that a hospital unit favors quality care and patient safety.

Conclusão

The study results express the understanding of the main aspects of the research: the support of senior leadership as a strategy to strengthen the safety culture in the institution, supporting the transparency and engagement of the team with a focus on the continuous improvement of care processes and, consequently , favoring patient safety in the cancer hospital.
