BREAST CANCER PATIENTS AND COVID-19: HOSPITALIZATIONS IN A CENTER OF HIGH COMPLEXITY IN ONCOLOGY

Introdução

The epidemiological scenario of pandemic by COVID-19 impacted oncological care in Brazil and in the world. Hospital beds were more required for covid patient care and, in the case of centers of high complexity in oncology, there was an unprecedented need to provide assistance to cancer patients with Sars-Cov2 infection in these services.

Objetivo

To analyze hospital admissions in a center of high complexity in oncology specialized in breast cancer during a period of 30 days of 2021. Method: descriptive cross-sectional study, carried out in the Center of High Complexity in Oncology, from the analysis of the information systems of admitted persons with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection during 30 consecutive days of the year 2021

Método

Descriptive cross-sectional study, carried out in the Center of High Complexity in Oncology, from the analysis of the information systems of admitted persons with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection during 30 consecutive days of the year 2021.

Resultado

Founded n= 180 hospitalizations of breast cancer patients in a center of high complexity in oncology, of these n=27 (15 %) patients with suspected or confirmed Infection by Sars-COV2, the mean length of stay was 6.33 days, with a minimum length of stay equal to 01 day and greater equal to 35 days until its final outcome. The outcomes of hospitalizations of patients with admitted breast cancer with suspicion or diagnostic confirmation of Sars-COV2 infection were predominantly due to death n= 9 (33.33%). When analyzing the clinical profile of breast cancer patients with outcome of death in the time frame of the study, founded n=06 (66.66%) patients diagnosed with metastatic process for lung or pleura, n=07 (77.77%) patients diagnosed with bone progression and n=09 (100%) patients with progression to lymph nodes.

Conclusão

Conclusion: the data presented show the need to deepen research related to the context of the pandemic by COVID-19 within the health-disease processof cancer patients, especially patients with breast cancer, due to its worldwide magnitude regarding morbidity and mortality rates.
