Título

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY OF MORTALITY FROM TRACHEAL, BRONCHUS AND LUNG CANCER REGISTERED IN THE STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL BETWEEN 2010 AND 2019

Introdução

In Brazil, the tracheal, bronchus and lung cancer is the third most frequent in men, with 17.760 cases, and the fourth most frequent in women, with 12.440 cases in 2020. Regarding mortality, it is the first cause of death by neoplasm in men and the second cause in women, as demonstrated by the 2019 Atlas of Cancer Mortality of the National Cancer Institute (INCA).

Objetivo

To analyze the Evolution of mortality from tracheal, bronchus and lung cancer documented in the state of Rio Grande do Sul between 2010 and 2019.

Método

This is a quantitative cross-sectional epidemiological study, conducted in the state of Rio Grande do Sul between 2010 and 2019, on the mortality rate resulting from tracheal, bronchus and lung cancer. The data analyzed were obtained through the Department of informatics of the Brazilian Unified Health System (DATASUS) and the National Cancer Institute (INCA).

Resultado

In the analyzed period, 32.577 deaths from tracheal, bronchus and lung cancer were documented in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The variation of the mortality rate was 14.65% between 2010 and 2019. The number of deaths in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in 2019 (3.528 deaths) was 18,51% higher than that recorded in 2010 (2.977 deaths). Thus, the growth was lower than the one registered in Brazil (35,27%) in the same period. In the distribution by age group, there was a higher prevalence of mortality between 60 and 69 years: 10.118 (31,06%); followed by 70 to 79 years old: 9.951 (30,55%); 50 to 59 years old: 5.755 (17,66%); >80 years old: 5.242 (16,09%); 40 to 49 years old: 1.253 (3.85%) and <40 years old: 258 (0.79%) The men were the most affected, corresponding to 62,30% of the total deaths recorded in this period. A difference of 222,40% was observed in the mortality rate for every 100.000 people, when compared to the rate registered in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in 2019 (30,98) with that registered nationally (13,93) in the same period.

Conclusão

It is concluded that the number of deaths from tracheal, bronchus and lung cancer has increased in recent years and that the mortality rate in the state of Rio Grande do Sul is three times higher than that documented in Brazil.
