OSCAR GERSHANIK
Dr. Gershanik is Professor and Scientific Director of the Institute of Neuroscience at the Favaloro Foundation University Hospital where he is also Co-director of the Movement Disorders Unit. He graduated with honors from the University of Buenos Aires Medical School and did his Neurology training at the French Hospital in Buenos Aires under the mentorship of Prof. Alfredo Thomson. He did a post-graduate research fellowship in Parkinson`s disease at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York University under Prof. Melvin D. Yahr, and later on was appointed Associate Professor of Neurology and Neuropharmacology in the Department of Neurology at Rutgers University Medical School under Prof. Roger Duvoisin. For 35 years he has been the Director of the Laboratory of Experimental Parkinsonism at the Institute of Pharmacological Research in Buenos Aires where he led a team of researcher working in different aspects related to pharmacological research in Parkinson`s disease. He has published extensively in the field of Parkinson`s disease and Movement Disorders, and, has trained a great number of clinical and research fellows both from Argentina and abroad. He is very active at the international level, both lecturing and participating in the activities of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society of which he was the President from 2015 to 2017, and presently has been awarded Honorary Membership of that Society
