Evaluation of LOCAL NASAL IMMUNOTHERAPY to Dermatophagoids sp. in patients with ALLERGIC RHINITIS

Resumo

Background: The induction of immune tolerance through Allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) has been indicated for Allergic rhinitis (AR). However, some doubts such as the total time of therapy, the time of remission after discharge, the ideal amount of protein in the antigens used, the percentage of efficacy and safety and the ways of using immunotherapy still remain. Objective: evaluate the clinical efficacy of allergen-specific nasal immunotherapy (LNIT) by observing the improvement in the patient's quality of life, and side effects. Methods: cohort of 2687 patients with allergic rhinitis treated for 5 years, a total of 136 positive patients in the prick test for Dermatophagoid pteronyssinus (Der p1+2) and Dermatofagoide farinae (Der f1+2). Patients (n=108), undergoing full concentration LNIT and controls (n=28), not undergoing LNIT, both submitted to the same type of control treatment for the same amount of time. Classified into mild, moderate and severe rhinitis. Quality of life was assessed based on a questionnaire for Rhinoconjunctivitis. Results: No systemic side effects or bronchospasms were observed. Patients under LNIT, when the control medication was withdrawn maintained the improvement in quality of life. After three years and two months, the patients significantly reduced the need for control medication, remaining with a degree: 0 and 1. The controls with the withdrawal of the controller medication, the quality of life questionnaire showed a worsening, with grades ranging from 3 to 5. Conclusions: The present work shows that the results of LNIT performed with full concentrations, did not show secondary reactions and that the effect of inducing tolerance to the antigens of Dermatophagoid sp. would have been achieved, based on the mainly due to the improvement in the patients' quality of life, and we could say that our results demonstrated a LNIT effective, easy access and non-painful route of introduction, and usable at different ages.
