Título

VALUATION PROPOSAL AND MANAGEMENT OF PALLIATIVE MALIGNANT FUNGATING WOUNDS USING THE ACRONYM T.I.M.E.

Introdução

Malignant fungating wounds are considered fungoids that arise when cancer cells infiltrate the epidermis, dermis, and adjacent tissues. Being one of the most common types of wounds in palliative care for cancer patients, the importance of managing these wounds stands out, especially as they worsen during the final stages of the disease and recognize a better strategy to manage them, providing a better quality of life.

Objetivo

To identify in the literature the main existing scales for wound assessment, to analyze which scale best fits to be used in the assessment of malignant fungating wounds.

Método

This is an integrative literature review study, between July and August 2018, at the Virtual Health Library (VHL), considering LILACS, SCIELO, MEDLINE databases and using the Oncology descriptors, Injury, and Assessment, with the Boolean AND resource.

Resultado

2,034 articles were collected, 125 were selected after reading, reduced to 28 after reading the abstracts, and finally, after reading in full, 19 papers were selected, where it was possible to recognize the lack of specific scale for the evaluation of malignant fungating wounds since their evaluation and management have been carried out using scales described for the evaluation of pressure injuries, such as the NPUAP (The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel), Pressure Sore Status Tool (PSST) and the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH) system, which aims to the main thing is to heal and revitalize the tissue, thus, among the scales described, the one that comes closest to assessing malignant fungating wounds, as it is focused on the management of the symptoms of the lesion, is T.I.M.E., because when treating this kind of wound, the management of symptoms and the wound bed is the main focus of treatment.

Conclusão

It is concluded that it is of paramount importance that there is more work on the topic addressed, and it is expected that the proposed instrument will bring positive results, both in the knowledge and preparation of the nursing team in the management of malignant fungating wounds, as well as in the care itself and quality of life of patients affected by it.
