Título

Family visits to patients as a way of coping during hospitalization

Introdução

The work of the hospital psychologist aims to help in coping with the psychological repercussions arising from the illness and hospitalization process, seeking strategies to minimize psychological distress, as well as to understand the illness process.

Objetivo

This study sought to understand the effectiveness of family visits to patients as a way of coping during hospitalization.

Método

A narrative literature review was carried out by searching indexed scientific databases, as well as articles, books, and experience reports.

Resultados

The literature points out that family plays a very important role during the hospitalization process, as it contributes to the patient's adaptation to hospitalization, helping to minimize the suffering of those who are hospitalized and favoring adaptive coping strategies concerning treatment.

Conclusão

Despite few studies on the subject, it can be concluded that family visits are effective coping tools during a patient's hospitalization, bringing benefits for the recovery process.
