EVALUATING INTERVENTIONS FOR ADOLESCENTS WITH PROBLEMATIC INTERNET USE
Introdução
From the perspective of a technological revolution, today, we live a daily life based on the relationship between the individual and technology, where the rise of digital media stands out. Faced with this situation, researchers discuss the intelligent and pathological use of these media, as well as the biopsychosocial impacts.
Objetivo
The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of the primary forms of treatment on the reduction of symptoms in Internet-dependent adolescents.
Método
The research question strategy was developed from the PICO model if the following descriptors were used in both MESH and DECS: ("internet addiction" OR "problematic internet use" OR "dysfunctional internet use") AND (treatment OR intervention OR therapy OR psychotherapy). The search for the articles took place in the databases: CINAHL; LILACS; PsycARTICLES, PubMed; Scopus, and Web of Science without date restrictions. Only articles in Portuguese, English, and Spanish were considered inclusion criteria of articles focusing on a) Adolescents with PIU; b) articles from experimental and quasi-experimental studies. The Rayyan QCR software and the prism model were used for the analysis of the articles.
Resultados
2,640 articles were found, excluded: 964 duplicate articles, 1,644 by title and abstract, and 17 by full text, being, therefore, included 15 articles in the quantitative analysis. Five experts assisted in the selection of the articles and blinded the review. The primary intervention used was cognitive behavioral therapy, but electro-acupuncture, complementary therapy, and meditation applications were found. All interventions had a positive outcome, both in excessive use and in the analyzed variables. Concerning style, most of the studies were performed in groups, but no significant difference was found between them.
Conclusão
The findings in the literature are restricted to the most common interventions and considered the gold standard by the scientific literature, such as CBT and other variations of those of a cognitive nature, from specific protocols for this problem.
