Título

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF THE EMERGENCY AND URGENT PSYCHIATRIC CARE OF A HOSPITAL IN ESPÍRITO SANTO.

Introdução

Mental health policies began to change with the Brazilian psychiatric reform. Faced with these changes, the psychiatric emergency care sector was restructured in order to adapt to the new functions. In addition to being a space for psychosocial support, it also began to operate in hospital triage, in the intervention of acute conditions, crisis management and to offer greater clinical support to the patient.

Objetivo

To identify the sociodemographic characteristics and the main diagnoses of the population treated in the psychiatric emergency and urgent care services unit of the Hospital in Espírito Santo.

Método

Descriptive and retrospective study with quantitative approach. Four thousand, seven hundred and twenty patients that were treated at hospital participated in this study, from October 1st, 2019 to October 1st, 2020. For the statistical analysis of the collected data, a descriptive analysis was conducted, using frequency tables, percentages and graphs. Then, the chi-square test was used to verify association or dependence between two categorical variables.

Resultados

The hospital conducted 7,306 emergency and urgent psychiatric emergency treatments. The treated profile, in most cases, was of a young adult, female, resident of the city of the hospital itself, diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizotypal disorders and delusional disorders (F20-F29). The treatments occurred more in the afternoon, on business days.

Conclusão

The reform goals do not need to strongly oppose the psychiatric hospital as a treatment environment. It is necessary to re-frame insanity, revisit social care practices and embrace the singularities of the individual.
